Smoke Detectors
(Photoelectric)

Detects smoke or fires in a home.

Pluses: Fire department can be notified even when you are not home (with monitoring), provides better protection in a slow, smoldering fire.

Recommended Areas: Usually one per floor (in larger homes 2 per floor), and in some cases bedrooms.

Heat Detector
(Rate of Change- 135 or 195 degrees available)

Detects heat from fires.

Pluses: Can be used in dusty or humid areas where photoelectric smoke detectors cannot be used.

Recommended Areas: Furnace Areas (like Basement Utility Rooms and Attics), Garages, Kitchens, Workshop Areas.

Carbon Monoxide Detector

Detects odorless, tasteless, colorless deadly gas (carbon monoxide).

Pluses: Can alert your system of high levels of deadly gas and send help out to authorities in emergency situations (with monitoring).

Recommended Areas: Around Gas Furnace areas and home appliances that operate with gas (like gas fireplaces, ovens, etc).

Flood Detector

Detects water leaks and flooding.

Pluses: Can provide early detection of water leakage and alert you of this even when you are not home (with monitoring).

Recommended Areas: Sub-pumps, washing machines (especially when laundry room is on the upper floor).

Low Temperature Sensor

Detects when temperature level drops below a pre set level.

Pluses: Helps protect against pipes from bursting in winter conditions when furnace stops working, commercial freezers.

Natural Gas Detector

Detects when a gas leak is present.

Recommended Areas: Around gas furnaces and gas appliances (like gas fireplaces and gas cooktops).
